Location(s):

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The Director-Corporate Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and serves as the company's senior accounting executive, with full authority and accountability for the accounting organization, the integrity of Tideworks Technology's financial records, U.S. GAAP financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, audit readiness, and tax accounting coordination in a private-equity-backed software and technology business.

The Controller leads all accounting functions and personnel, including the Senior Manager of Finance & Accounting (future Assistant Controller) and the Accounting Manager (future Revenue & Financial Operations Manager). The Controller owns the monthly, quarterly and annual close, financial statement preparation, technical accounting, accounts payable, revenue and billing accounting, payroll accounting, tax reconciliations, and end-to-end financial operations. The role partners closely with FP&A, Sales, Professional Services, HR, Legal, IT, and the CFO while maintaining clear accountability for GAAP actuals and accounting policies; FP&A retains ownership of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.

Accounting Leadership, Close & Financial Reporting:

  • Lead the general ledger, consolidated trial balance, journal-entry approval, balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals, allocations, and monthly/quarterly/year-end close; target a disciplined 5-7 business-day monthly close.
  • Own GAAP-compliant financial statements, management reporting packages, accounting schedules, flux analysis, and clear explanations of earnings, balance-sheet movements, and cash flow drivers.
  • Oversee accounting operations across accounts payable/procure-to-pay, accounts receivable/order-to-cash, billing, collections accounting, payroll accounting, fixed assets, leases, intercompany, and expense reimbursement.
  • Oversee bank and cash reconciliations, payment controls, treasury accounting, debt and interest accounting, and reliable near-term cash visibility in partnership with CFO/FP&A.
  • Maintain a complete, documented and reviewable close calendar, account ownership matrix, reconciliations, management review controls, and appropriate segregation of duties.

Software Revenue, Technical Accounting & Policy:

  • Own revenue recognition under ASC 606 for subscription/ARR, term and perpetual licenses where applicable, maintenance/support, hosting, implementation, T&M and fixed-fee professional services, milestones, UAT acceptance, variable consideration, and contract modifications.
  • Ensure contract-to-cash data integrity across signed customer agreements, CRM, project/PSA systems, billing schedules, invoices, deferred and unbilled revenue, AR, and the general ledger; resolve recurring-revenue and professional-services cutoff discrepancies.
  • Prepare and review contract accounting memoranda for material or nonstandard arrangements, including multiple performance obligations, standalone selling prices, allocation, principal-versus-agent considerations, and capitalization of incremental contract acquisition costs where applicable.
  • Own policies and accounting for internally developed software and cloud implementation costs (ASC 350-40, as applicable), fixed assets, leases (ASC 842), impairments, contingencies, acquisitions/business combinations, and other material transactions.
  • Partner with FP&A on credible ARR-to-GAAP revenue bridges, deferred revenue/unbilled revenue rollforwards, working capital, revenue quality, and recurring-revenue KPI definitions; FP&A retains forecast and budgeting ownership.

Controls, Audit, Compliance & PE Reporting:

  • Lead annual external audits and lender/owner reporting support; coordinate PBC requests, technical accounting positions, schedules, representation materials, and timely remediation of audit findings.
  • Design and strengthen a risk-based internal control framework suitable for a PE-backed private company, including entity-level controls, approvals, delegated authority, segregation of duties, access reviews, and evidence retention; maintain readiness for enhanced controls or future SOX requirements.
  • Manage external tax advisory service providers, including scoping, deliverables, quality, deadlines, and coordination of federal, state, local and international income tax compliance, indirect taxes (sales/use, VAT/GST), payroll-related tax matters, and provision support as applicable. Own internal tax-related general ledger accounting, balance-sheet tax account reconciliations, tax accruals, tax-payment reconciliations, support schedules, and resolution of variances; coordinate tax positions and entity requirements with the CFO and external advisors.
  • Support lender covenant calculations, purchase accounting, separation/TSA accounting, opening balance sheets, quality-of-earnings support, acquisition integration, and potential exit diligence, as required.

Systems, Transformation & Process Improvement:

  • Serve as accounting business owner for ERP strategy and migration from IFS to NetSuite, including chart-of-accounts design, process mapping, master-data governance, controls, integrations, UAT, reconciliations, cutover, and post-go-live stabilization.
  • Improve workflows connecting CRM, project/PSA, ERP/billing, payroll, banks and financial reporting; implement standardized dashboards, automated reconciliations, approval workflows, and exception monitoring.
  • Document repeatable accounting policies, SOPs, KPIs and control narratives; reduce manual entries, spreadsheet dependencies, close cycle times, and billing/collections errors.

People Leadership & Business Partnership:

  • Direct the entire accounting organization, including direct management of the Senior Manager, Finance & Accounting (future Assistant Controller) and Accounting Manager (future Revenue & Financial Operations Manager), as well as oversight of their teams and external accounting providers. Set structure, delegated authority, performance standards, review controls, succession plans, hiring priorities, and development objectives; remain hands-on when necessary.
  • Collaborate with FP&A on actuals, forecasts, EBITDA and working-capital explanations while maintaining clear segregation between accounting ownership and financial planning.
  • Advise business leaders on contracting, pricing and deal structure impacts on GAAP revenue, billing, capitalization, and cash collection; escalate material accounting risks promptly to CFO.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related discipline; active CPA strongly preferred (CPA required for candidates without demonstrably equivalent technical accounting expertise).
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years leading an accounting team or controllership function; significant software, SaaS, enterprise technology, or technology-enabled services experience.
  • Expert knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 606 and software revenue recognition, with demonstrated ownership of annual audits, complex close processes, balance-sheet integrity, and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing core accounting processes (GL, AR, AP, payroll accounting, cash, fixed assets), developing internal controls and leading cross-functional process improvements.
  • Hands-on NetSuite proficiency or demonstrated leadership implementing a comparable modern ERP; advanced Excel and strong accounting systems/data skills.
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a lean, fast-paced PE-backed environment with high ownership, sound judgment, precise communication, and strong talent management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with private-equity ownership, carve-outs/standalone company setup, debt reporting, audit readiness, M&A, and/or ERP migrations (especially IFS-to-NetSuite).
  • Public accounting foundation (Big Four or national firm), multi-entity/multi-currency accounting, international tax coordination, and controls/SOX readiness experience.
  • Familiarity with Dynamics CRM, PSA/project accounting, recurring-revenue analytics, Power BI, and subscription billing integrations.
