The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Ferrante Laboratory at the Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons seeks a dynamic person to assist in experiments studying the biology of weight regulation and metabolism.

Located in the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center the Ferrante Laboratory studies how changes in weight alter the physiology and function - from effects on the immune system to neural circuits that control feeding behavior. The Laboratory members work as a team and include medical and graduate students, post-doctoral and clinical research fellows and staff with a wide variety of skills and expertise. It is an exciting and congenial scientific environment.

Responsibilities



  • Assist other members of the scientific team in performing experiments - including immunohistochemical, behavioral, fluorescence activated cell sorting, tissue culture.
  • Perform experiments and collect data according to established protocols.
  • Organize and maintain data.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and discussions of experiments and data.
  • Responsible for mouse colony maintenance and organization and genotyping.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents for daily lab use.
  • Interact with personnel from other related research projects.
  • Order and maintain laboratory supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Set up, calibrate, upkeep laboratory equipment for experiments.
  • Perform assays and prepare solutions according to detailed instructions.
  • Assist in collection of samples and keep records of the results of experiments.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent in training and/or experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in a research laboratory and coding
  • Knowledge of related laboratory procedures and techniques
  • Ability to learn and perform a variety of new techniques


Other Requirements



  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, as well as independently.
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program.
  • Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
