Responsibilities
NORTON HEART & VASCULAR INSTITUTE, located in Louisville, Kentucky, is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible advanced heart failure cardiologist to join its expanding program. The ideal candidate will join our Advanced Heart Failure & Recovery Program, a more than 50-person multidisciplinary team that includes two board-certified, fellowship-trained heart failure cardiologists, eight heart failure advanced practice providers, two ventricular-assist device surgeons, dedicated heart failure nurse navigators, a social worker, financial counselor, pharmacist, perfusionist and ventricular assist device coordinators. Our experienced team of physicians and advanced practice providers has an average of 15 years of heart failure experience. Norton Heart & Vascular Institute is a regional leader in treating patients with cardiomyopathy conditions. Our board-certified and fellowship-trained cardiologists and other specialists are at the leading edge of advanced treatments for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, with our Advanced Heart Failure & Recovery Program recognized as first in Kentucky and second in the region of eight states. About the position:
- Management of patients who have heart failure with preserved systolic function and heart failure with reduced systolic function
- Ability to risk-stratify patients who need disease management, guideline directed medical therapy or referral for advanced surgical options, including LVAD or heart transplantation
- Knowledge of device management, including implantable cardiac defibrillator and cardiac resynchronization therapy
- Experience with heart failure monitoring tools, including the CardioMEMS, HF system, ReDS system vest and LifeVest
- Ability to perform right heart catheterizations and endomyocardial biopsies
- Opportunity to practice specialized therapies for amlyoid, hypertrophic, noncompaction and sarcoid cardiomyopathy, and more
- Interest in temporary and permanent mechanical circulatory support, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
- Collaborate with hospital and community-wide initiatives around re-admission reduction and post-acutecare for heart failure patients
- Support and manage VAD implant patients and heart transplant patients with pre- and post-transplant follow-up through the UK HealthCare Gill Heart & Vascular Institute Affiliate Network
- Collaborate with Norton Children's Heart Institute, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, to provide total congenital heart disease and mechanical circulatory support in conjunction with their pediatric heart transplant program
- Join current efforts participating in heart failure and transplant national research studies, including support for investigator-initiated projects
- Norton Heart & Vascular Institute Advanced Heart Failure & Recovery Program takes over patients' care after their one-year anniversary from post-transplant care

The physician is responsible for recording a detailed medical history of each patient in the electronic medical record, including, but not limited to, chief complaint, present condition, individual history, and family history. Performing appropriate physical examination of each patient. Analyzing reports and/or findings of tests and personal examinations in order to assess the medical condition of the patient, including diagnosing the patient's injury or illness and formulating a prognosis.
