Plant Operations Tech - Baytown TX

We are seeking a Plant Operations Tech at Baytown, TX facility

The Baytown facility is comprised of one Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) with integrated cold box, and one satellite facility. The site is tied into an existing hydrogen pipeline system that spans from New Orleans to the Houston Ship Channel and supplies hydrogen to the integrated supply network for consumption by customers across the Gulf Coast Franchise.

As an Operations Technician you will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the HyCO process for our highly automated plant (e.g. steam system, compressors, distillation equipment, and DCS operation), as well as work alongside Maintenance and Instrument/Electrical Technicians to maintain equipment. Additional duties will include taking field readings, performing equipment inspections and performing preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical, instrument and electrical proficiency is desired.
  • Candidates with a background in pumps, mechanical seals, vessels, exchangers, gear drives, compressors, rotating equipment, and/or Electrical/Instrumentation knowledge is a plus.
  • Validated commitment to safety and continuous improvement
  • Position may require weekends and on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to work alone.
  • Candidates with a background in plant/refinery instrumentation and electrical systems is strongly preferred.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Controlling and monitoring the continuous manufacturing processes to produce industrial gases and liquids
  • Operation of motors, compressors, pumps, distillation columns, distributed control system and process valves
  • Making daily runs and taking field readings
  • Preforming equipment inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Tanker and railcar loading as well as loading system technical support
  • Contribute at plant turnarounds as required
  • Requirement to be able to work in confined space situations, either being responsible for people working in confined space, or as an attendant logging people in and out, plus monitoring the atmosphere of confined space
  • Prepare and submit documentation, including standard operating procedures, internal/external audits, management of change documents
  • Monitor activities of external contractors
  • Conduct safety training for the contractors
  • Follow lockout tag out procedures.
  • Issue safe work permits for any jobs being completed in the plant
  • Travel in North America to support other plants for shift coverage in remote areas, as well as plant turnarounds up to 10% local travels.
  • Participate in teaching activities with peers for safety and training meetings.
  • Professional skills improvement & development in process, instrumentation, safety management in workplace.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Be able to meet call-in requirements as needed.
  • Elevated work required.

Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Certificate in process technology or maintenance field (preferred) or 3 years minimum in a manufacturing/production, processing or chemical/ petrochemical environment. Participants in Skills USA are encouraged to apply.

Technical School Graduates:

Students with a background in Industrial Systems, Machine Tool Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Automotive Technology, HVAC, Process Technology, Electrical Technology, Instrumentation Technology are encouraged to apply.

Work Hours & Benefits:

  • Must be willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts and weekends and take 24 hour on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to work alone on nights, weekends, and holidays.
