We welcome applications from scholars who research any aspect of environmental history, in any region and period of human history. We are especially interested in candidates who will augment existing departmental strengths, such as medieval history and/or the history of science, and can contribute to our Public History program. We anticipate that the courses offered by this hire will attract students of the social and life sciences as well as history and environmental studies majors. In addition to teaching basic survey courses in environmental history, the hire will teach upper-division and graduate courses in their specialty and advise students in the field. The successful candidate will build intellectual and programmatic bridges with other fields and research clusters in the department and across campus and could potentially collaborate with scholars in UCSB's Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. The minimum requirement to be considered for this position is the completion of all requirements for a PhD (or equivalent), except the dissertation , at the time of application. Preferred qualifications
PhD (or equivalent degree) in History or a related field. Original and significant research, clarity of writing and argument; ability to collaborate with colleagues in the department and in related fields at UCSB; ability to add to diversity through teaching, mentorship, research, and service; and demonstrated knowledge of the subject in teaching and research area are preferred.
