Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, a distinguished and fast-growing biotech company, is in search of a Senior Director of IT Infrastructure. The role requires leadership and expertise in managing data centers, cloud platforms, networking systems, and disaster recovery protocols to ensure performance, security, and scalability. Responsibilities include designing networking solutions, managing storage and servers, and developing disaster recovery plans.

Additionally, this role is responsible for service desk operations, ensuring exceptional support and seamless experiences for employees. This position demands strategic thinking, technical proficiency, and leadership in a dynamic technological landscape.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee the comprehensive management of the global IT infrastructure, including:

  • Cloud platforms: Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure to support business growth and agility. Utilize AWS as our primary cloud infrastructure provider while also leveraging Azure and GCP to ensure flexibility and scalability in our IT operations

  • Networking systems: Design, implement, and maintain robust networking solutions to ensure seamless connectivity across the organization.

  • Disaster recovery protocols: Develop and execute disaster recovery plans to safeguard data and maintain business continuity.

  • Cloud Strategy: Develop and implement a robust multi-cloud strategy to maximize the benefits of AWS, Azure, and GCP.

  • Storage management: Oversee the storage solutions to ensure data integrity, availability, and efficient space utilization.

  • Server management: Ensure the reliability, performance, and security of servers, managing both physical and virtual environments this includes a comprehensive patch management strategy.

  • Backup and recovery: Implement and maintain comprehensive backup and recovery solutions to protect critical business data.

  • Database administration: Manage and optimize database systems to ensure high performance, security, and availability.

  • Data centers: Ensure the optimal performance, security, and scalability of data centers.

  • Laptops: Responsible for laptop images and asset management also inclusive of patch management strategy.

  • CMDB Management: Maintain a detailed and up-to-date CMDB (Configuration Management Database) to manage assets effectively and ensure resource availability.

  • Compliance and governance: Ensure all IT infrastructure practices comply with legal, regulatory, and organizational policies.

  • Capacity planning: Monitor and forecast infrastructure capacity requirements to support business growth and prevent downtime.

Service Desk Management

  • Ensure the service desk provides timely, effective, and comprehensive support to employees globally, addressing technical issues with precision and expedience:

  • Support Procedures: Develop and implement robust procedures to uphold high service standards and ensure swift resolution times.

  • User Support: Focus on enhancing the overall employee experience through efficient and user-centric service desk operations.

Audio/Visual Management

  • Administer and enhance audio/visual systems, ensuring robust performance and user satisfaction, including:

  • Zoom: Optimize and manage Zoom for effective communication and collaboration across the organization.

  • All Company All Hands and Multi-Media Events: Lead and manage a team responsible for running corporate All Hands meetings and other multi-media events with a high-touch approach.

  • Other AV systems: Maintain and improve other audio/visual systems to support meetings, presentations, and events.

Microsoft Technologies Management

  • Manage and optimize Microsoft technologies to enhance productivity and collaboration, including:

  • Teams: Ensure seamless integration and usage of Microsoft Teams for communication and teamwork.

  • M365: Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 services to support business operations.

  • Active Directory: Manage and maintain Active Directory to ensure secure and efficient access to resources.

Monitoring Systems

  • Establish and maintain advanced monitoring systems to proactively identify and resolve potential issues, safeguarding the stability and reliability of IT services:

  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of IT infrastructure and applications to ensure optimal operation.

  • Availability Monitoring: Ensure the availability of critical IT services and systems to support business operations.

  • Security Monitoring: Partner with the information security team for monitoring solutions to detect and respond to security threats.

Strategic Technology Planning

  • Lead strategic technology planning initiatives, aligning IT infrastructure advancements with the company's growth objectives and long-term vision:

  • Technology Roadmapping: Develop and maintain technology roadmaps to guide IT investments and advancements.

  • Innovation: Identify and implement innovative technology solutions to support business growth.

Operational Capability

  • Manage global IT operations with exceptional operational capabilities to support diverse and geographically dispersed teams, ensuring consistency and reliability across all regions:

  • IT Service Management (ITSM): Implement best practices in IT service management, including software and hardware asset management, to streamline processes and optimize resource utilization.

  • Integration: Ensure seamless integration and collaboration with the Chief Information Security Officer and business-facing technology leaders, fostering a unified and strategic approach to IT operations.

Inspection Readiness and Response

  • Assist with inspection readiness and response for Alnylam Pharmaceuticals:

  • Compliance: Ensure all IT infrastructure and service desk operations comply with regulatory standards and requirements.

  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation to support inspection processes.

  • Audit Support: Provide support during audits and inspections, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries.

  • Continuous Improvement: Implement changes based on inspection feedback to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.

Management Functions

  • Lead comprehensive vendor management and MSP (Managed Service Provider) management efforts, ensuring effective partnerships and service delivery:

  • Vendor Management: Develop and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure the delivery of high-quality services and solutions.

  • Roadmapping: Develop and manage detailed IT roadmaps that align with broader business objectives, guiding technology investments and advancements.

  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial management of IT infrastructure investments, ensuring budget adherence and maximizing return on investment.

  • Team Building: Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering an environment of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the IT department.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in managing global infrastructure and service desk teams within a high-growth environment, demonstrating a proven track record of success.

  • Strong project management skills, with a history of executing complex projects effectively and efficiently.

  • Expertise in cloud technologies and data center management, showcasing advanced technical proficiency.

  • Excellent team-building and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams to achieve outstanding results.

Experience Requirement

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in IT Infrastructure and Operations, including:
  • 5+ years in senior leadership roles (e.g., Director, Senior Director, VP).

  • Proven experience overseeing enterprise infrastructure, cloud transformations, data centers, networking, and disaster recovery.

  • Demonstrated success in leading service desk/support organizations and improving end-user satisfaction.

  • Experience managing hybrid IT environments and driving innovation through modern technologies (e.g., cloud-native, automation, monitoring tools).

Educational Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree (e.g., MBA or MIS) is strongly preferred.
