Overview

The Research Department at Alnylam is seeking an Associate Director to lead a team responsible for advancing RNAi therapeutics into the future, by opening up targeted delivery to all tissues. The individual will need excellent collaboration and communication skills, connecting team members from multiple areas. The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of biochemistry/biological sciences with experience in receptor identification/characterization (unbiased screens) and affinity ligand discovery (antibody, peptide, etc.), This role requires in-depth expertise in tools and techniques to identify receptors and characterize ligand-receptor interactions. Expertise in ligand selection approaches (e.g. phage display, yeast display) is essential. Experience in the field of antibody drug conjugates is a plus.

This position is onsite and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead an interdisciplinary team to execute goals of targeted delivery into new cell types and tissues.
  • Manage external collaborations relating to receptor identification and ligand development for targeted delivery.
  • Establish tools, techniques and assays to identify new receptors, develop new binding ligands, and characterize ligand-receptor interactions, which may include recombinant protein production, binding assays, and cell-based assays to assess receptor engagement and functional siRNA delivery.
  • Transparently communicate results with key stakeholders throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in biopharma setting.
  • Expertise in ligand selection approaches and receptor biology.
  • Strong background and in-depth understanding of protein chemistry, receptor identification, biochemical characterization of ligand-receptor interactions including binding and uptake.
  • Experience in the field of antibody drug conjugates and nucleic acid conjugates will be a plus
  • Strong track record of working in interdisciplinary, collaborative team-based research environment and leadership of research projects.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) are essential.
